TIERRA PURA Corazón del Bosque / PURE EARTH Heart of the Forest
TIERRA PURA Corazón del Bosque (PURE EARTH Heart of the Forest) is an evening-length dance piece by Jessamine DeLancey, created in collaboration with 15 local dancers, Clarissa Anderson, Meredith Joy Buck, Noelle Correia, Viva Dunwoody, Charley Fierro, Cherie Gendron, Devon Herchenroeder, Tamara Juel, Wednesday Manners, Lea Rickers, Lena Sances, Micha Scott, Lorena Valenzuela, Inbar Vanek, and Tanya Wilson.
Tierra Pura Corazón del Bosque refers to the natural medicine that resides in the leaves of any given forest. This collaboration created and facilitated by Jessa DeLancey is an accumulation of her experience with the dances of the African Diaspora and her own personal expression in response to the elements of nature and the universe. Each component of nature has a story and within these stories reside movement, words and images. Tierra Pura intends to reiterate the earth's profound messages through the power of words, sounds, music and movement. This performance will take the viewer on a voyage that involves the language of birds, and the transcendental, life-giving properties of water. A journey that allows one to witness the emergence of an immense forest through the beginnings of a single seed hidden beneath every-day rubble. This work runs the gamut of exposing the fierce qualities of a huntress and the soothing undulations of the feminine force of the river. Join us for an evening of healing and tactful game.
In collaboration with local poet Devi Gonzales, this performance includes a physical narration of Gonzales' poem Alas (Wings) choreographed by Jessa DeLancey.
Guest Artists include Los Angeles based musician and capoeirista Khalil Cummings, and Baltimore based musician/composer/computer programmer Justin Porter, M.A., both of whom are traveling from their respective homes to our area just to collaborate on this special show.
Live music is provided by locally based musicians Sam Zimmerman and Nathan Kocivar.
The performance is presented by The Tannery World Dance and Cultural Center and proudly supported by The Arts Council of Santa Cruz County.
