Music for Good with flutist Robert Cart and pianist Regina DiMedio-Marrazza
Robert Cart (flute) and Regina DiMedio-Marrazza (piano) explore the music of modern and romantic era composers in 'Passions New & Old', on Sunday, March 1, at 3pm. As part of the Philadelphia Ethical Society's Music for Good series, 20% of ticket sales are donated to a charitable organization of the Artists' choice, and they have chosen Play on Philly, an organization whose mission reflects Robert and Gina's life-long commitment to excellence in music education. This concert takes place in the Philadelphia Ethical Society Auditorium, located at 1906 Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia.

'Passions New & Old' includes works by the Franco-Belgian composers César Franck, Eugène Ysaÿe, and Henri Vieuxtemps, and Philadelphia composers Eric Sessler and Jennifer Higdon. The relationships between Franck, Ysaÿe, Vieuxtemps were those of deeply devoted friendship and mentorship. Vieuxtemps was teacher and mentor to Ysaÿe, who was one of the greatest violinists of his generation. Franck's grand four movement violin sonata, composed as a wedding present for the 31-year-old Ysaÿe, is here transcribed for the flute.

When composing Sawmill Sunshine, Eric Sessler had every intention of writing something slow and serious. However, the creative process often takes its own path and he ended up with a joyful work full of energy and brightly colored lyricism. Jennifer Higdon has said of the introspective and contemplative Nocturne from String Poetic (originally for violin and piano) that it represents "piece of night-night of peace." 'Passions New & Old' marks the world premiere of Higdon's flute and piano version of this work.

Renowned for its passionate and musically stirring performances, the Marrazza-Cart Duo has performed throughout the United States, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Philadelphia Ethical Society, Concerts on the Square, and the Mid-Atlantic Flute convention.

Eric Sessler will join Gina and Robert at the start of the concert on March 1st to discuss his work, and Gina, Robert and Eric will appear on Live from the WRTI Performance Studio on February 21st at 12:10PM to preview this program.
