Aidan Connolly and John Daly Away On Up the Road
Aidan Connolly and John Daly
With special guest John Shine (piano)

In the summer 2019 Aidan collaborated with fiddle player John Daly on Away On Up the Road, an exciting and dynamic duet fiddle album!

Aidan Connolly

Aidan was born and reared in Rathfarnham in Dublin and has been playing the fiddle since the age of eight. Aidan absorbed much of the music of Sliabh Luachra through his mother Eileen Moynihan, a Co. Kerry native. From taking classes at the Craobh Naithí branch of CCÉ and from playing with his mother and uncle, Con Moynihan, also a fiddle player, Aidan quickly developed into a fine fiddle player and began to be influenced by the recordings of fiddle masters Paddy Cronin, Paddy Canny and many others.

Part of a generation rich in traditional music talent, Aidan encountered several like-minded peers at music festivals throughout Ireland and this had (and continues to have) a big impact on his playing.

In 2016 he released his debut album, Be Off, to critical acclaim. He has toured extensively in Europe, the USA, Australia and Japan and is a highly sought after performer and teacher owing to his highly individual style.

In the summer 2019 Aidan collaborated with fiddle player John Daly on Away On Up the Road, an exciting and dynamic duet fiddle album.

John Daly

Born near Mallow, Co. Cork, John started playing fiddle at the age of 12.  Through his father Paddy, who came from Gneeveguilla Co. Kerry, it was inevitable that his earliest influences would be the music and musicians of Sliabh Luachra.
Living and working in Cavan for eleven years from the mid-1980s brought John close to the strong but very different musical traditions of Connacht and Ulster.
John moved to Chicago in 1997 where he spent twelve years. During his time in America John released a self-titled CD in 2003, produced a solo fiddle album of the the Longford fiddle player Paddy Reynolds (NY) in 2004 and in collaboration with with Denis Cahill in 2005, produced two Albums of the music of Josephine Keegan - A few Tunes Now and Then and The Nightingale. In 2006 the album A Tribute to Andy McGann featuring Joe Burke, Felix Dolan and Brian Conway was recorded live at the Irish American Heritage Centre.
Since Johns return to Ireland in 2008 he has been involved in teaching fiddle at the annual Joe Mooney School in Leitrim as well as the James Morrison festival at Riverstown Co. Sligo.  Currently living in Limerick, it was at a festival in nearby Scartaglen to honor of the past musicians of Sliabh Luachra that John met Aidan Connolly.   Shared Gneeveguilla roots and a common interest in many different sources and styles of fiddle playing have been the impetus for Away On up the Road
