Melharmony Festival - ta-ki-Ta Trio at the Oregon Performing Arts Center, 456, N Perry Parkway, Oregon, WI
We take great delight in drawing your kind attention to one of the most significant events in US Cultural Calendar - the annual Midwest Melharmony Festival on November 15, 2014, at the Oregon Performing Arts Center. This festival, initiated in Nov 2013 endeavors to pioneer a new era in keeping with the inventor of Melharmony, Chitravina N Ravikiran's vision of taking multi-cultural-diversity to the next level of 'multi-cultural-unity' in USA and also other parts of the world, by showcasing the similarities between various systems of music, which can enable their contrasts to be appreciated even more positively.
The inaugural edition, billed as the OVK-Bach Festival, featured two immortal creators of two contrasting cultures (Indian and Western classical), Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi (1700-65) and Bach (1685-1750). It provided a study in contrast between the developments in melody in the East around the same time that harmony took great strides in the West and received both audience acclaim and media attention in both USA and India.
This year's Tyagaraja-Mozart Festival centers on Tyagaraja (1767-1847) & Mozart (1756-91). Both composed hundreds of pieces and were among the most influential composers in their respective systems of music. The event will include scholarly discussions on Tyagaraja and Mozart, performances of their works by professional ensembles, competitions and short recital opportunities for students.
The crowning event will be a performance by ta-ki-Ta Trio Maestro Chitravina N Ravikiran, who has been hailed for his "Teasing precision and dazzling effects" (New York Times), 4-time Grammy winner Glen Velez, vocal percussionist Loire Cotler with guest artiste - Tarun Bhattacharya on the 100 stringed santoor. This event is expected to draw hundreds of listeners from Dane County, Milwaukee, Chicago and Minneapolis and is the expected to be one of the biggest budget multicultural festivals in Dane County, going forward. The event will be presided over by John DeMain of the Madison Symphony Orchestra and Honorary Patron of the Melharmony Festival.
