Carnival for the Festival
Join us May 8th for the annual In the House Festival's fundraiser. This year we're doing a New Orlean's Carnival theme! Get ready to shake your booty to some amazing music, shop at the fantastic silent auction, and support one of Vancouver's festival treasures which builds strong communities through arts and culture.
Come wearing a fancy carnival mask! You'll be glad you did, because you are going to dance your face off! The most beautiful and creative mask will have a chance to win a full In the House prize pack (includes a weekend pass to the festival, a t-shirt, and an In the House CD)
And of course there will be a silent auction with some pretty amazing prizes.

Razzmajazz: RazzMaJazz is dedicated to performing traditional jazz in the New Orleans style. Known as a fun and upbeat swinging band, RazzMaJazz entertains audiences young and old, and often inspires them to dance and sing along. www.razzmajazz.ca
Sambata: Based in Vancouver, Sambata is a percussion school and musical ensemble that plays a powerful and unique blend of music drawing on the rich traditions of Afro-Cuban and Brazilian popular and folkloric music. Led by Paul Bray, Sambata delivers high energy, inspiring performances in parades, clubs and corporate events. Since its inception in 2000, Sambata has touched thousands of lives with their brand of innovative arrangements, cross-cultural instrumentation and exuberant spirit. www.sambata.org
Samba Fusion: This Dance Group was formed by Andrea Monteiro and Naija K in 2009 because of their common dance background in "Samba." As the ideas flowed in the initial stages of Samba Fusion's development, more dancers joined the group and each dancer brought their on experience in different styles of dance. The women have been working to weave and fuse many styles of dance and rhythms together to create a new vision of dance - to capture the audience and leave them fascinated with the worldly flavor! Dancers have studied and performed dance in Brazil, Canada, China, Central America, and Tibet. Samba Fusion International Dance Group performs several styles of dance and dance fusion including: Brazilian Samba, Samba, Reggae, Afro- Brazilian, Belly Dance, Gypsy, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Salsa/Latin/Reggae-ton, African, Polynesian, Bollywood, Vegas Show Showgirls Cabaret.
The Soft Wind Quartet: The Soft Winds Quartet will delight you with their authentic New Orleans sound, excite you with their hot improvisation, and get you dancing to the sounds of Bourbon street and Frenchman street. The sweet and hot trumpet stylings of band leader, Trumpeter/Vocalist Bonnie Northgraves, will transport you down to Bourbon street. She can be seen performing weekly at Guilt and Co. on Wednesday Evenings. This band also features the talents of Josh Roberts on guitar/banjo who you may recognize from many local bands including "The New Orleans Ale Stars" and "The Big Bang Jazz Band". Wynston Minckler on upright bass, and Nicholas James on drums complete the Soft Winds Quartet. Both well established and respected musicians in their original fields, Wynston and Nicholas have become some of the most sought after rhythm section players of this genre in the Vancouver music scene.
