OSCAR NIGHT AT THE VASHON THEATRE
OSCAR NIGHT AT THE VASHON THEATRE, Vashon Film Society's annual Academy Awards bash, happens Sunday, March 2 where else but at our much-treasured island movie house in the heart of town. It's our seventeenth year of shining the spotlight on our historic movie theatre and celebrating creativity, community and cinema by producing a local gala that incorporates the glitzy Hollywood Oscar awards show broadcast with homegrown entertainment on the commercial breaks.
Come uptown at 4 pm on Sunday, take a ride around the block in a classic British limousine, sign autographs on our red carpet and grant interviews to the media! Everyone can be a star at our Oscar by participating in a costume contest on the commercial breaks from the official Hollywood awards ceremony. The categories are Best Dressed Child (Female and Male), Best PJs (for those preferring comfy flannel attire and a blankie over formal wear), Celebrity Look-alike, Best Dressed Adult (Female and Male), the "Cher" Most Outrageous Award, Best Dressed Teen (Female and Male), Best Dressed Adult Couple, and Best Ballot. Our party goes until the end of the Academy Awards telecast when host Ellen Degeneres announces Best Picture from Hollywood.
Here on the island, Sci-Fi Saturday curator and beloved Chicken Soup Brigade activist (not to mention well known bus driver) Larry Flynn will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the local Vashon-centric activities that take place on the stage of the Vashon Theatre during breaks from the live Hollywood broadcast.
Oscar Night tickets are $10 advance from the theatre box office,Vashon Bookshop and here on Brown Paper Tickets ($12 at the door on day of show), and the $30 Superstar Deal(available at the box office and bookshop) offers a substantial $5 savings by packaging admission, limo ride with photo, beverage and meal together. Proceeds from Oscar Night ticket sales go toward annual scholarships Film Society awards to aspiring film makers through Vashon Community Scholarship Foundation.
