Beehive Chamber Series: Prague
- THIS STREAMING LINK WILL BE SENT TO YOUR PROVIDED EMAIL ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2020 -
If European cities were a necklace, Prague would be a diamond among the pearls, said an anonymous writer after exploring the citys winding cobblestoned streets, markets, cafes, and bridges. In this program we will explore this cultural center through the changing lense of its music. We will begin with Joseph Lobkowicz, the Duke of Roudnice, amateur musician, and the patron to whom Haydn dedicated his Op. 77 quartets. Next, well take a southern detour to the Republic of Georgia for a piece by our own violist, Lysander Jaffe. Jaffe wrote Shepherd Song inspired by the Georgian polyphonic singing he heard during his travels. We will then return to Prague for Dvoraks second String Quintet, a rousing, sublime, and powerful work to end our journey.
