Pandit Pran Nath Centenary Celebration and Raga Weekend
Friday November 2nd thru Sunday November 4th at the Camptonville Performing Arts Center, Camptonville CA
Please join Terry Riley, students and friends for our celebration of Gurujis 100th birthday!
Session schedule
9:30 - raga fundamentals and riaz (morning practice) with Michael Stirling
11:00 - compositions from the Kirana tradition with RIk Masterson
12:30 - Indian vegetarian lunch (non dairy and gluten free options available)
2pm - raga and tala in improvisation for both western instruments and vocalists with George Brooks
4pm to 5:30 - master class with Terry Riley
All are encouraged to participate in all the sessions. Each of these teachers has a unique offering and many years of experience in the practice of khayal singing as taught by Pandit Pran Nath and his lineage in the ancient Kirana tradition.
Sunday afternoon
2pm - remembering Pandit Pran Nath with Terry Riley, students and friends followed by a screening of In Between the Notes a documentary film about the life, career and legacy of Pandit Pran Nath
4 - 7pm - Centenary Celebration Concert (with intermission) featuring Terry Riley, session teachers and others tba.
Registration:
Price for entire weekend; all class sessions including lunches, chai and Sunday Concert; $250
Two days: $170.
One day : $ 85.
*these are the minimum fees, no partial days or refunds.
Please reserve you place for the weekend by October 20th.
Please note: No refunds can be made after October 20.
* Be sure to note if you prefer gluten free or non dairy lunch options at time of registration.
Non dairy and gluten free fare will be reserved for those who have opted in advance.
Lodging
A list of nearby lodging will be sent when your registration and deposit is received.
Accommodations are not included in the price of the weekend and must be arranged and paid for directly with hosts or your preferred arrangement.
Spaces in the Camptonville area very limited, be sure to reserve separately with one of the hosts as early as possible Lodging in Nevada City and Grass Valley is about 40 minute drive from Camptonville.
Work in partial exchange for attendance
We have 2 spaces for work exchange that will cover 50%. of the weekend costs. These are available to full weekend registrants only. One space is offered for kitchen prep for part of the morning and possibly some time in late afternoon following sessions. You must be capable and have kitchen prep experience for this. The other is to help with cleanup each day after lunch, help with registration on Friday and some light tasks throughout the weekend. contact ragaweekend@gmail.com if interested.
