Our Call for Acceptance: PopUp Choir Welcomes Andrew Last
Communities around our country experience "hate" incidents leaving them shocked, "crying out" and feeling a common call to act. As global citizens, we, too, are affected and seek to join with these communities in responding. The humanitarian, Scott Minerd, has said, "Acceptance always comes before understanding. However, until you learn to accept, you dont really have an opportunity to understand. Everyone cries out for understanding. But when you turn it around and talk to people, you find - at their cores - what they really want is to be accepted.
"Our Call for Acceptance" is our response. In the words of Dr. Andrew Last, conductor of Luther College Nordic Choir and this project's artistic director, "I want this program to say 'who you are is reason to celebrate.' Our lives, loves, questions, frustrations and responses are all valid. Calling out for acceptance is not a "you" challenge ... it is an "us" challenge. Andrew and PopUp Choir invite all to join us in responding to this challenge with this evening of exploration, beauty and celebration.
