In this intensive, 3-day workshop in New Orleans, Gaspar Rodriguez, an accomplished and award-winning flamenco guitarist and composer from Malaga, Spain with over 20 years of professional experience will offer students an hands-on, in-depth workshop geared to guitarists of all levels of experience- from the beginner to the professional- focusing on flamenco techniques and rhythms and tailored to the needs of each individual student. Students will have the opportunity to study closely and intimately with a master of the art form whose depth of experience and knowledge extends not only to solo work, but also to dance and cante accompaniment. His generous teaching style, great sensitivity and highly refined technique make this is a unique, not-to-be-missed opportunity for flamenco guitarists, students and aficionados.

ARTIST BIO:
GASPAR RODRÍGUEZ from Málaga, Spain, is a Flamenco guitarist and composer with an extensive career spanning over 20 years. His music is deeply rooted in the traditional while also embodying a modern-day sensibility in its expressive, avant-garde sound. He has won the Sabicas Prize and was a finalist of La Union in flamenco guitar. He has played at acclaimed theaters worldwide such as London's Sadlers Wells, Barcelona's El Liceo and New York's City Center and Joyce theaters. His music has been featured in dozens of works for celebrated companies such as El Nuevo Ballet Español, including Flamenco Directo (1998) and Fury (2001), and in the contemporary flamenco group Cañadú. He has collaborated on numerous discographic productions and soundtracks and has accompanied renowned figures in flamenco today such as Antonio Canales, Angel Rojas and Rocío Molina. 'Pureza de lo nuevo', featuring his latest original works, debuted at the 2017 Bienal de Málaga. Gaspar performs regularly in famed Madrid tablaos including Tablao Villa Rosa, Casa Patas and El Corral de La Moreria and teaches workshops throughout Europe and the Americas. He currently serves as guitarist and Music Director for companies in the US, Canada and Spain.

Years ago, Peña la Pepa founder and owner María José Salmeron wanted to share the vision and the magic of what she has learned and shared in Jerez de La Frontera, Spain, in the authentic Peñas Flamencas. In essence the concept of a Peña Flamenca revolves around having a space and an atmosphere of experiencing Flamenco art "up close an personal."
A "Peña" describes the traditional setting where people of southern Spain gather to celebrate their culture of local "barrios" and "gitanos." The art of Flamenco is the medium of dance, singing, and guitar.
Peña Flamenca La Pepa stands as a cultural association for recreation and sharing to promote an atmosphere of Flamenco in all its facets.
