PAN-AFRICAN GALA
A quote from Nelson Mandela: "The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall"

As the months of January and February unfold, so do the celebrations marking the sacred moments of the civil right movements for the black people all over the world! After honoring Martin Luther King jr in January, we are now turning to pay tribute to the other iconic leader Nelson Mandela (Madiba), the anti-apartheid figure, here in Portland. There will be the presence of his grandson Ndaba Mandela, as the very distinguised host of the event.

The night will feature, Ndaba Mandela, opening the gala with a speech dedicated to the legacy of Mandela, his grandfather. Ndaba Mandela will give to the audience a summary of what he seeks to achieve in the project that he founded a while ago, called "Africa Rising" (see link here and please donate: http://ndabamandela.co/)

The musical aspect of the event will feature a great Haitian band, Balans (zouk, kompa music genre), their presence will be highly symbolic, given the fact that Haiti was the first black nation to free themselves from the oppression of European slavery. A DJ from Ghana, SoloAfrikon + guest DJs (Dullah, PIZ) will entertain you with the quintescence of Afro-World music!

February being celebrated as "Black History Month" with lots of events commemorating it, this Mandela's legacy night will also stand to mark Madiba's centennial, if he were still alive today!

Both the leaders of our struggle, Mandela and MLK jr.,  had always preached the message of peace, tolerance and equality in the world we all hope for, particularly during these uncertain times we are all facing, nowadays! However, no matter how difficult it can be, that legacy will continue with a person from a new generation like Ndaba Mandela, to carrying it on!

COME CELEBRATE WITH US, ALL COLOURS, ALL WALKS OF LIFE! (just dress casual nice, if you don't have an African or Caribbean garment!)

Note: the event is taking place at No Vacancy Lounge, 235 SW 1st Ave Portland OR 97204, a brand-new, trendy venue downtown, 21+.

Schedule: 8pm-9pm Intro and host presentation, 9pm-10pm band performance (1st set), 10pm-11pm DJ music, 11pm-12pm band performance (2nd set), 12pm till the end is all DJ music.
