Little Orphant Annie Film Premiere
The Delphi Opera House is pleased to be premiere the restored 1918 silent film 'Little Orphant Annie' based on the poem by James Whitcomb Riley and starring Colleen Moore. Eric Grayson, film historian, has painstakingly restored the film from three badly deteriorated prints found in the Library of Congress. James Whitcomb Riley appears at the beginning and end of the movie in a clip taken in 1916 just a few months before his death.
Eric Grayson will introduce the film describing both the restoration process and the significance of the film. Roger Lippincott will accompany the silent film.
James Whitcomb Riley performed several times in the Delphi Opera House and his close association with Delphi will be presented through photographs and narrative. Poems written about Delphi by Riley will also be read as we toast the poet on the eve of Indiana's Bicentennial.
This project is endorsed by the Indiana Bicentennial Commission.
