Tres Leches - 3 Tasty Surf Films from South of the Border
We are very fortunate to combine California's first ever screening of "La Maestra", "GONE: A Surf Journey through Mexico", "Thank You Surf Again" with our year-end fundraiser for The Wahine Project through Monterey County Gives. Your donation for attending this event will generate recognition and matching funds for The Wahine Project starting November 12th, just in time for the screening of these wonderful films.

LA MAESTRA (THE TEACHER) (TRT: 29:40 MINS)
PRODUCED AND DIRECTED BY PAUL FERRARIS & ELIZABETH PEPIN SILVA(SPANISH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES)
https://vimeo.com/127362487(film trailer)
La Maestra profiles Mayra Agulair, a teacher in a tiny fishing village in Baja, Mexico, who decides to follow her own path by becoming the first Mexican woman in her area to surf, and in doing so, changes her community's expectations of what's appropriate for women. Told in Spanish using mainly Mayra's voice, the film shows how she inspires others to take up the sport and follow their dreams. Mayra also talks about the gift of nature that has drawn thousands of tourists over the years, forever changing her hometown. In this regard, the film is also a subtle commentary on the impact outsiders have on small communities and the need for all of us to be more mindful visitors.

GONE: A SURF JOURNEY THROUGH MEXICO (TRT: 30 MINS)
PRODUCED AND DIRECTED BY MARK KRONEMEYER
The crew that brought you 2010's surf journey "Rumors" is back. Where have they been? They were GONE. With 5,800 miles of coastline, Mexico offers more opportunities for undiscovered surf than all but a few countries. Perfect points, heavy beach breaks and rifling reefs are the rewards for surfers willing to search. Many of the treasures remain buried. Undaunted, we set out to dig them up.

THANK YOU SURF AGAIN (TRT: 16:30)
PRODUCED BY BILL STEFANACCI, DIRECTED BY FRANK
'Thank You, Surf Again' chronicles the activities of non-profit 'Surf For Life', a voluntourism organization that takes teams of volunteers to impoverished coastal communities. The film documents the building and completion of a high school in Nicaragua and relief efforts in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
Challenging the stereotypes of surfers as self serving thrill seekers, 'Thank You, Surf Again' profiles several surfers who dedicate themselves to community development in the areas that they visit. Professional surfers Chadd Konig and Holly Beck are joined by the core Surf For Life team and other surf-centric organizations to launch education, clean water and relief programs throughout the developing world. Shot with RED cameras, the production involves the expertise of many veterans in both the non-profit and media production worlds.

Founded in 2010 The Wahine Project is a non profit organization that was created in an effort to reach young girls who would otherwise not have access to the resources that would allow them to surf. Whether geographical, financial or lack of opportunity, The Wahine Project seeks to break down the barriers that prevent the participation of young girls in the sport of surfing and provide them the opportunity to not only become proficient surfers but as a result of surfing, increase their awareness to their global citizenship. Through education, outreach and travel young girls will be provided opportunities that will give them a sense of social responsibility that surfing uniquely provides.

You will have an opportunity to meet the film makers and talk with them during our panel discussion following the films.
We also thank Surfrider Foundation for sponsoring this event in-kind through their attendance and outreach to their members.

Partial proceeds from this film screening will go directly to The Wahine Project through a donation to Monterey County Gives. By purchasing a ticket as donation based support for this campaign, The Wahine Project will continue to grow in its mission and services.

Thanks in advance for joining us for this very special event. See you at the movies!
