"It is tenderly affecting that with This Way to the EGRESS, pretty much anything goes" Alan Feuer - The New York Times
BETHLEHEM, PA. [April 13, 2015] In November 2014, Bethlehem, PA-based sextet This Way to the EGRESS finished production on their third studio album in Brooklyn,NY. Great Balancing Actproduced by NYC-based Roger Greenawalt (Iggy Pop, Branford Marsalis, Philip Glass)is an energetic, fist-pumping, foot-stomping, arm-linking sing-a-long call to action. Alan Feuer of the New York Times says of the bandwho combine Gogol Bordello's energy and antics, Django Reinhardt's musical sensibilities and Tom Waits gritty New Orleans style"It is tenderly affecting that with This Way to the EGRESS, pretty much anything goes." With that notion in mind, "It seemed fitting to invite our favorite NYC-based band and performers to join the bill for our Brooklyn/NYC record release party" says Taylor Galassi, the accordion-wielding bon vivant who founded EGRESS in 2008 with the help of his partner and leading lady Sarah Shown. "We are so excited for this event; not only because it's the record release party for our new album Great Balancing Act, but because of the amazing and bizarre lineup that make up the night, this will be a balanced night for unbalanced people" says Shown. In addition to EGRESSthe accordion-wielding, tuba-toting, headdress-wearing, genre-defying sextetthe evening will feature NYC-based Alt-Opera Diva (with a booty that just won't quit) Sarah Screams, an academy-trained opera singer combining the beauty of classical operatic performance with the excitement of modern burlesque and comedy; all the way from New Orleans, burlesque from the nationally recognized sideshow ringleader Kali von Wunderkammer; and EGRESS' favorite musical cohorts, Amour Obscura Brooklyn-based gypsypunk band offering theatrical performance drawing from the striking visual aesthetics of the American sideshow and Weimar cabaret with a unique instrumental lineup and an eclectic array of influences. The event will be held Saturday, May 9th at King's County Saloon [1 Knickerbocker Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11237]. Doors open at 8 PM; there will be bar specials all night long along with a 1 AM happy hour, a 60/40 raffle, a chance to win a vinyl copy of EGRESS' new record and door prizes.
