I Stole your Ashes (Short Narrative, Spain, Language: Spanish w/ English subtitles, 20 min. 2024) Directed by Felipe Olaya
Isabel has become a widow at 65. After stealing the urn of ashes, Isabel takes refuge in a park to say goodbye to the love of her life, her wife, while remembering their story and reflecting on love and loss. Based on the presumption of heterosexuality, this story is a mirror. What prevents us from empathizing with those who love differently?
The Subtitles (Short Narrative, Colombia, Language: Spanish w/ English subtitles, 108 min. 2024) Directed by Andrés Restrepo Gómez
Felipe is an apathetic young man with a talent for buying and selling stocks. His only interest lies in market movements, especially during times of war. His interactions with others are minimal and utilitarian, even with his only friend, Sara, a chaotic translator who lends him her Wi-Fi. One night, Felipe starts seeing subtitles of what people truly want to say to him. Stunned, he realizes he can "read" everyone's subtextexcept Sara's. His friend will make him understand that to break the spell, he must learn to empathize with others' language.
