Fiona Ross and Christine Kydd at Edinburgh FC / EFC
FIONA ROSS grew up in Partick, in the west end of Glasgow, also spending time at her family home in North Tolsta on the Isle of Lewis during her teenage years. The youngest of a busy household of five children, she inherited a love of Scottish music from her dad, and soon began singing popular Scottish songs. In the 1980s Fiona truly embraced the Scots song tradition, immersing herself in Edinburghs vibrant folk scene and serving her apprenticeship in the local folk clubs and busy pub singing sessions. She then joined the group Handsel with Scottish folk scene stalwarts Brian Miller, Gavin Livingstone and fiddler Anna-Wendy Stevenson (later Sharon Hassan), performing at traditional music festivals around the country.

Eventually, as with so many Scots before, Fiona left for Australia (2009) where, now living in Melbourne, she has continued to develop into a well-recognised tradition-bearer of Scots song. Fiona's honest, earthy & evocative singing style and extensive repertoire showcases the richness & diversity of the tradition.

Fiona was a finalist for Scots Singer of the Year in Scotland's prestigious Trad Music Awards of 2019. Her most recent album "Sunwise Turn" won Music Victoria's Best Folk Album award 2020 and was a finalist for Traditional Album of the Year in the Australian Folk Music Awards 2021.

CHRISTINE KYDD is one of Scotland's foremost and best-loved traditional singers.  From an extended family of singers and musicians in the west, she began playing folk music with friends as a child and has always delighted to return to the Edinburgh where she lived for many years, surrounded by contemporaries such as Jock Tamsons Bairns, The Easy Club, The Poozies.

Christine has graced the stage with many top musicians, including the creators of Shooglenifty and her career has included touring and recording with Chantan, Calluna, Sinsheen, and with Janet Russell in a well-remembered duo.

Solo work has led to Christine being nominated twice as Scots Singer of the Year and she was admitted to the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame in 2018; a considerable accolade.

Shift & Change, (Greentrax/2019), her third solo recording, has been met with extremely favourable critical acclaim, including a 4-Star review in The Scotsman. The album brings together the cream of Scotlands musicians and singers - Andy Shanks, Innes Watson, Fraser Speirs,  Gillian Frame and musician/producer/engineer Angus Lyon. This line-up appeared at Celtic Connections Festival in 2020.

Christine's influences are wide including many contemporary writers and traditionalists (including of course the great traveller singers from Scotland), and she sings both unaccompanied and with guitar (piano when available). Recently she has been invited to festivals as a tradition bearer.

A singer of grace and generosity, and a commanding soloist  (Karine Polwart)
A glorious singer and great fun (Penicuik Folk Club).
