Quilt Exhibit and Q&A with Sonié Joi Thompson-Ruffin
Please join us Saturday, May 28, for a public event celebrating writer and fiber artist Sonié Joi Thompson-Ruffin and her two-week participation in the 2022 Persimmon Creek Writers and Artists Residency in the historic Village of Arrow Rock, Missouri.

Starting at 5:00 pm that day, Sonié's quilts will be available for public viewing at two sites -- in Arrow Rock's historic Brown's Chapel and historic Christian Church. Works on display will include My Mother's Club: March on Kansas City, Ecclesiastes: The Book of Knowledge, Outside my Picture Window, Strange Fruit, and many more.

At 7:00 pm, Sonié will participate in a Q&A with residency program director Nancy Blossom at the historic Christian Church. Topics will include Sonié's practice as an artist, her stay in Arrow Rock, her membership in Kansas City's African American Artists Collective, and the backstories behind many of Soniés stunning quilt pieces.

In addition, there will be a Tote Bag Show displaying work created by the attendees of two recent Sonié's Tote Bag® Workshop sessions at Brown's Chapel -- with Arrow Rock-themed prizes awarded to Best of Show winners!

Finally, following the Q&A, a reception will take place on the lawn of Brown's Chapel, with music from Kansas City's J Love Band and refreshments provided by the residency.

All events are FREE and open to the public. We ask that you register via Brown Paper Tickets in advance of the events, just so we know to expect you.
