New London Maritime Society announces a new series of concerts, 'Custom House Soirees',  held concurrent with New London's  'Eat in the Street' summer events.

The next Soiree takes place Wednesday, July 7, when 'Eat in the Street' features the theme: Pirates.

Sit back an enjoy a mini-concert in a COVID-safe environment, all the while sipping wine & coffee, and sampling delicious desserts. There will be two 45-minute seatings, scheduled at 7 & 8 PM on Wednesday, July 7, 2021. The 8 o'clock concert ends just in time to catch the fireworks at 9! Tickets are $35 each. Space is strictly limited.

The program will open with the Overture to Sir Arthur Sullivans operetta 'The Pirates of Penzance' in a piano transcription of by Berthold Tours (1880).

Our pianist will then perform music inspired a famous cavatine from Vincenzo Bellinis opera 'Il Pirata' (1827), The Pirate, which was performed in the US in 1832.

The concert will continue with two evocations of the terrifying legend of the flying Dutchman: an 1872 transcription by Franz Liszt of Sentas ballad from Act II of 'Der fliegende Holländer' by Richard Wagner (1843), and another 'Ballade: Das Geisterschiff' (1860), 'The Ghost Ship'.

Humorous pieces by Michel Corrette will conclude the entertainment with a story illustrated in music: 'Le Combat Naval dune Frégate contre plusieurs Corsaires ennemis' (1779),' The Naval Warfare of a frigate against several enemy corsair ships'.

French musician Aymeric Dupré la Tour studied piano and music theory at an early age at the National Conservatory of Lyon, his native town.  After both earth-science and organ-performance studies in Paris, he earned an Artist Diploma in organ and a Masters in historical performance at Oberlin College, OH, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the Juilliard School, NY, where he studied harpsichord with Albert Fuller.  His concerts have taken him across France, the United States, Canada, and South America in venues such as Weill Hall, Carnegie Hall. Dupré la Tour settled in New England following fruitful collaborations with Richard Auber at Zuckermann Harpsichords, Stonington. In addition to an active career performing and recording on the harpsichord as a soloist or continuo player with ensembles such as Chamber Orchestra of New York and Connecticut Virtuosi, Dupré la Tour also works as an organist, choir director, pianist, vocal coach, and music director/arranger.
