In this concert vocalist/songwriter Pyeng Threadgill presents a collection of her New Porch Music entitled Songlines: Singing The Land. With Soulful vocals traversing Blues, Jazz and Groove inflected rhythms, Songlines covers a vast range of musical ground. From the inner challenges of living as a person of color in present day America, to environmental challenges posed to such endangered species as bees and the ever looming question of how to make a life living in harmony with oneself and the world around us.
Inspired by the accumulating natural disasters of the planet and the climate changes within ourselves and our lives, Songlines takes a Neo-folk approach in its personalized storytelling. Reflecting on the exclusion of Indigenous and African Diasporic traditions and rituals, Pyeng's music seeks to bring collective consciousness to current environmental concerns.
