Tamerlano by G. F. Handel
Our upcoming season will feature Handels Tamerlano, a musical tour-de-force about the gross injustices of warfare, imprisonment, and infamous tyranny of the title character during the times of the Ottoman empire. In a community that is conscious of the powerful themes inherent in baroque opera, it is no surprise that baroque opera has experienced a renaissance in such an intellectually and culturally progressive region as the Bay Area. Over the last decade, increasing popularity in baroque music research has enabled the resurgence of baroque opera performances. The Handel Opera Project is one of the few professional groups in Berkeley that caters to a burgeoning population of audiences who seek baroque operas, oratorios, and instrumental music.
