Last Call @ the Everett Civic
Last Call is a professional vocal jazz ensemble from the greater Seattle, Washington area.
Kelly Kunz, founder and director of Last Call, has had the great fortune of growing up with some of the greatest vocal jazz educators of an era. These educators included John Moawad from Central Washington University, (a pioneer in bringing vocal jazz to the public schools), Phil Mattson (legendary vocal jazz educator), and Kelly's own father and high school choir director, Jack Kunz. All these men highly influenced Kellys upbringing and helped fuel and nurture his passion for music.
About half of Last Call's members are local choir teachers, and the other members are young professionals in fields outside of music. The group was born from a desire to continue to sing jazz in an ensemble setting after moving on from college, regardless of ultimate career choice. Their love of jazz and singing in an ensemble like this one generally stems from past participation in a high school or college group. Many of Last Call's members are graduates of Central Washington University, which has had a long-standing tradition of excellence in the Pacific Northwest.
Last Call's members have been inspired by a wide variety of musical artists and mentors, not only in the area of jazz, but in all vocal musical styles. The group's mission statement revolves around trying to provide the same inspiration for a younger generation of musicians. Last Call is continuously seeing new ways to explore different musical boundaries in the area of vocal jazz, while sharing their musical enthusiasm with local high school and college music students as teachers and mentors.
