Matt Sayles and "Misisipi" Mike Wolf have performed together at shows in the San Francisco area prior to both of their relocating to the upper midwest in 2019. This is their first performance together in the midwest at one of the best listening rooms in Duluth--Wussow's Concert Cafe.'
"Misisipi" Mike Wolf is an American singer, songwriter and musician. His music has been compared to that of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings. His music has been featured on nationally broadcast radio and television and has been twice voted as "Best Singer/Songwriter" by readers of the San Francisco Bay Guardian.
Matthew R. Sayles is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and founder of Philville Records, an independent label he formed in 2000 in Marquette, Michigan.
Sayles has toured nationally and internationally, and has had the honor of performing with country, bluegrass, and western swing legends like Merle Haggard, Dwight Yoakam, Asleep at the Wheel, Larry Sparks, Doyle Lawson, the Duhks, Uncle Earl, Hot Club of Cowtown, members of Bob Dylan's "Rolling Thunder Review" and a long list of other highly talented regional and national roots music performers.
Sayles's solo performances bounce from up tempo Telecaster-picked roots country, early rock & roll, roadhouse blues, Americana ballads, and bluegrass, to north African-inspired instrumental pieces on five string banjo and south American-infused arrangements on the Andean ten-stringed Charango.
The Gentlemens Anti-Temperance League plays jazz originals. Modern songs under an old-time facade. Its music your granddad would listen to, if your granddad was a time-traveler from 2050 with a hankering for vintage cocktails and hot jazz. Its hot, infectious, and emotional. Kind of like that on-and-off relationship you had in your early twenties, but a lot more grounded.
Hundreds of shows and four albums have honed GATL into a finely tuned machine greased with whiskey, regular exercise, and a taste for wheels on pavement. Keep a weather eye out. They might be in your town soon.
