THE STREAMSIDE SOCIAL CLUB
The world premiere of THE STREAMSIDE SOCIAL CLUB! A one woman show written and performed by Julie Guevara, directed by and developed with Jessica Lynn Johnson.
This show recounts the journey of Julie as she creates an imaginary big band era nightclub in the living room of her home on Streamside Lane. The Streamside Social Club magically lifts her Lt Colonel father Julio out of a dark Alzheimers haze. Her father, a Cuban bandleader in his youth, has unique hallucinations filled with war and characters straight out of vaudeville. As Julio slowly loses his voice in life, Julie is triggered and transported back to her youth of untold secrets and her own once powerless struggle. Together they both lose their fears, they both embrace their truths and they each step into their next destiny.
When you're a Cuban, all you inherit in life is one good joke and a song and a dance! Go get em kid
Also includes various forms of dance like Salsa, merengue, multiple characters like 1940 Cigar-girls, train conductors and vaudevillian jokesters, multimedia to fully showcase Julies life and follow a narrative of survival, perseverance, spirituality and big big love.
