You know we put our hearts, souls, and everything else into curating stellar events with completely unique lineups. Launching into Fall, we present to you a night of soulful blends of epic proportions. Juice Drumandbass is honored to welcome very special guest Redeyes (The North Quarter / France) to Portland for his debut U.S. appearance!!! This one is personal as our biglittleagency BassRoutes is backing him and this incoming September stateside tour =) REDEYES has been breaking ground for over 15 years with his soulful DnB and hiphop productions, and is going to bring a vibe here unlike any weve yet experienced! Joining the evening will be one of US finest: Random Movement; now running one of the most important DnB labels stateside: Flight Pattern Recordings. He brings incredible energy to the dancefloor, and has a ton of new music up his sleeve! With local support from Parallel (PDX), and hosted by the newest addition to the JUICE family, MC Questionmark,no part of this special session should be missed!

Hailing from France near Toulouse, Julien Salvi, aka REDEYES began his journey of music appreciation very early through a multitude of genres. By the age of 7 or 8, he was hosting and creating fake radio shows using a tape deck and his cousins records. While his first purchases were Metallica and Iron Maiden, a deep love for early hip hop and electronic/rave music arose, along with a great appreciation for spinning records. While he dabbled with instruments (particularly the guitar), it was his fascination with the production of the more organic rhythms of soul, jazz, and afro beats that really took his attention. At this time Ninja Tune and Mo Wax were making some interesting sounds with samples mixing jazzy beats. Then he heard jungle musicand it was game ON.
As a teen, he was already addicted to buying 12s, and was spinning hip hop, house, diving into the early jungle sounds of drum and bass.
Through the European and emerging stateside music scenes, his exposure to music was vast. From hard rock and punk (Zeppelin, Metallica, Suicidal Tendencies), to hip hop (Public Enemy, De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest); and listening to UK-based jungle and drum and bass; REDEYES found a soft spot for hip hop and the afro-grooves of jazz, soul, and funk coming out of the U.S.
By the time he got his first laptop to start producing tracks in the late 90s/early 2000s, he was already DJing, building a name for himself. Working initially on some abstract hip hop and soul-based sounds, he started developing drum and bass tunes after spending time in a couple of other artists production studios. He found his inner DnB soulful vibes around 2004, and had a string of releases to follow in 2006 and beyond on clutch labels like Markys Innerground Records, Bcees Spearhead, Bingo Beats, Intrinsic Recordings, Crisis, Brigand, and Creative Source. Zinc gave him his first break on Bingo, and remained one of his strongest supporters along with Fabio, DJ Flight, DJ Marky and LTJ Bukem who were all playing his tunes. Redeyes track Pusherman on Bingo was pivotal; reaching dance floors to high acclaim through artists like Roni Size, Lenzman, LTJ Bukem, and Fabio on BBC Radio; as well as outside-of-DnB DJs like Bonobo and Laurent Garnier.
Some of his first projects with important artists in the industry such as Alix Perez, Lenzman, Eveson, Random Movement, MUTT, and Pennygiles also helped to broaden his exposure to more audiences. His first two solo albums Poetry in Motion (Spearhead) and Part of Me on Vandal later followed.
While getting other practical industry business experience over the next 5 years at Vandal Records and Vandal LTD, Redeyes discovered that he really wanted to focus on music production. Working on some local projects with friend Sweed in Paris, and Lenzman in the Netherlands, this incredibly versatile and talented French artist began to bring together all of his inspiration into a number of EP releases like the Memory Lane EP Parts 1 and 2 on Vandal in 2016 and well-known Blueprints on Lenzmans The North Quarter label in 2017. Finding a natural flow and common ground working with Lenzman, Redeyes is at home with his music style and The North Quarter family. Enjoying producing other-tempo tracks, and inspired by works from artists like Marky, Calibre, Tribe Called Quest, Dilla and Flying Lotus, he released his most personal and versatile album yet late 2018: the critically acclaimed half hip-hop and half drum and bass album Broken Soul on TNQ.
Redeyes ability to capture the essence of jazz, funk, hip hop and soul into energetic dance-floor music have launched countless amazing collaborations with artists like Alix Perez, Lenzman, Eveson, Random Movement, GLXY, Hus Kingpin, IAMDDB, Tyler Daley of Children of Zeus, DRS, and Milano Constantine (DITC) to name a few.
While some producers rarely DJ, and some DJs rarely produce, REDEYES finds harmony with both. Driven to create top notch mixes incorporating bits from soundtracks and complimentary genres, half the fun for him is the digging of the tunescreating an experiencea soundtrack to life. Equally thriving on the vibrations and excitement of performing to an audience, (while still maintaining solid solo time to produce in the studio), he continues to balance these two important roles along with curating events in Toulouse with the OUTLINES crew.
Playing out at some memorable festivals in Japan, Bratislava, New Zealand, Manchester, Paris Cabaret Sauvage, London North Quarter parties and countless others, Redeyes continues to bring his soulful danceable music around the globe.
Redeyes has played throughout Europe for the last 15 years: performing all over the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Austria, Poland, Germany, France, Spain, and Hungary; with other notable appearances Serbia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, New Zealand, Australia, Macedonia, Finland, Japan and Chinaand the adventures continue as he heads West for his first US/Canadian tour in the Fall of 2019!
