Birds of Prey Release Celebration
September 6, 2019 is the date for the greater Cincinnati area release celebration for BIRDS OF PREY by the duo Switchback. The event will take place at Mansion Hill Sanctuary, 417 East Sixth St., Newport KY 41071
Switchback will be joined with their BIG OL' BAND, featuring local artist Jennie Malone as part of the lineup. Opening for Switchback will be local legends Jill and Bobby, formerly of the band Coyote and WEBN Album projects 2 & 3.
The show will begin at 7:30 p.m.
It can be argued that Brian FitzGerald of Switchback started his musical career as a kid in the Pleasant Ridge neighborhood of Cincinnati. Back in the late 1960's, the whole area was alive with young musicians practicing and aspiring to be the next big act. As a young boy he used to stand by the basement window and listen to Chris and Bill Jolly and their band practicing at their home. Chris and Bill Jolly were prominent figures in the local club scene back in the 70's and inspired Brian to pursue music as a career.
Another prominent figure in the local scene and next door neighbor happened to be Bobby Fisher. Fisher rose up through the local scene to become a studio musician and music producer and arranger.
FitzGerald moved from Pleasant Ridge to the Chicago suburb of Oak Park, Illinois. It was there that he continued his musical pursuit under the tutelage of Segovia-taught guitarist Jack Cecchini and mandolin great Jethro Burns. After forming Switchback with Martin McCormack in 1993, FitzGerald began returning to his Cincinnati roots, and the band performed for several venues and benefits in the area.
Fisher and FitzGerald reconnected years later through the off chance of Switchback being invited to the National Pastoral Musicians conference. It wasn't until the conference commenced that the two rediscovered their common musical childhood. At that conference, Brian also met actress and musician Jennie Malone. (https://www.jenniemalone.com/) The friendship and reunion of sorts added fuel to the desire for a grand return to the Cincinnati area for Switchback.
With the release of BIRDS OF PREY, Switchback will for the first time bring the Big Ol' Band to Ohio. Featuring Brian's nephew, the multi-instrumentalist Paul Russell and Nick Hirka on percussion, the band will present the album as well as selections of original music that have made the band noticed on the national stage, NBC television and PBS.
