Freeland Blues Fest 2019 Presented by Nixul
Join us on Saturday August 24th 2019 for the Freeland Blues Fest presented by Nixul! On this action packed day of Blues Music we will be featuring a great line up Blues Musicians. Staring the day off will be Michigan Native, Youngster in the Blues scene Jake Kershaw. Followed by Chicago Veteran Wayne Baker Brooks, Saginaw Based Larry McCray, and ending the night, with Memphis Based Samantha Fish rounding out this great night of Blues Music.

You should always get outside of the box, Samantha Fish says while discussing her boundary-breaking new album Belle of the West. Challenging yourself is how you grow. This album will be available to take with you at the Blues Fest! After launching her recording career in 2009, Samantha Fish quickly established herself as a rising star in the contemporary blues world.  Since then, the charismatic young singer-guitarist-songwriter has earned a reputation as a rising guitar hero and powerful live performer, while releasing a series of acclaimed albums that have shown her restless creative spirit consistently taking her in new and exciting musical directions. As far as Samantha Fish is concerned, her musical future is an open road.  Im never gonna be a traditional blues artist, because thats not who I am, she asserts.  But its all the blues for me.  When Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf came out, what they were doing didnt sound like anything that had been done in blues before.  Youve gotta keep that kind of fire and spirit.  Im never gonna do Muddy Waters better than Muddy Waters, so I have to be who I am and find my best voice.

Larry McCray's heart and soul are in the blues. Of that, there's no question. It's been 25 years -- award-winning ones at that -- of scalding-hot and tasteful blues from the Arkansas-born, Michigan-based singer, guitarist, bandleader, songwriter and heir apparent to a lineage that includes personal influences and heroes such as B.B. King, Freddie King, Albert King, all of whom he's had the chance to meet and play with. McCray's eight albums have blended reverence for that tradition with his own soulful spin on the form, and those achievements have been noted with an Orville H. Gibson Male Blues Guitarist of the Year award as well as the Top Guitarist prize in International Blues Matters' 2014 writer's poll.

Born and Raised in Chicago, Illinois Wayne Baker Brooks is considered one of today's top guitarists who's signature style
combines powerful vocals with liquid fire guitar playing that honors his rich blues heritage yet effortlessly expands the
boundaries of the genre. In 1997 he formed the Wayne Baker Brooks Band. In 1998 he co-authored "Blues for Dummies" with his father Lonnie Brooks and Rocker Cub Koda. He soon joined his father'sband (Lonnie Brooks Blues Band) as his rhythm guitarist then quickly became bandleader & musical director. With the release of hisacclaimed debut CD "Mystery" "an album that
brilliantly draws on blues, blues rock, soul, funk and beyond" says All Music Guide, "Mystery" received multiple awards,
accolades, and praise from the music world.

At only 18 years old, Jake Kershaw, has accomplished more than some twice his age. He has had the privilege of playing with great performers such as Jonny Lang, Anthony Gomes, Larry McCray, Albert Cummings, Walter Trout, and has opened 2x for Kenny Wayne Shepherd , Tommy Castro and the Painkillers, Bernard Allison, Marcus King, Samantha Fish and Tab Benoit. Jake recorded and released his first album, Piece of My Mind, in the summer of 2017 when he was just 16 years old. Earlier that year he was honored with his first endorsement from Heritage Guitars as a Young Artist. He has since been endorsed by companies such as Lizard Spit, JobeTone pickups, Apex strings, and Medina Made straps. Jake has also won a Jammie award from Western Michigans WYCE radio for Listeners Choice Best Album by a New Artist and 2018 Emerging Artist of the Year. All of this and he has maintained a 4.0 GPA taking honors and advanced placement courses, is a member of the National Honors Society (volunteering at least 50 hours a year at charitable events), Symphonic band, and marching band, in which he plays the euphonium at Marshall High School.Jake Kershaw plays as a high energy power trio and often a quartet, and performs classic blues and blues with a rock edge.
