TIM ERIKSEN at The Shea
The cast of a new play REFUGEE and musician Tim Eriksen join together again to bring you a night of music weaving Tim's multi instrumentals and songs from the play Refugee written by Milan Dragicevich with music by Tim Eriksen.

Tim Eriksen is  "widely regarded as the best ballad singer of his generation" (BBC Radio). He combines hair-raising vocals with savvy arrangements for fiddle, banjo, guitar and bajo sexto, transforming American tradition with a "northern roots" sound that embraces old New England murder ballads, shape-note gospel and haunted originals alongside Southern Appalachian and Irish songs. Tim's latest solo album "Northern Roots Live in Namest" (Indies Scope 2009) celebrates the power of this music in concert.

Considered "among the world's finest folk practitioners" (Toronto Star) for his expertise in traditional song, Tim is also known for his own compositions - strange and original works (NetRhythmsUK) with a rare sense of purpose (Q Magazine) that have been included in films like the Billy Bob Thornton vehicle Chrystal and the upcoming feature documentary Behold the Earth. Eriksen's other notable work has included extensive contributions to Anthony Minghellas 2004 Oscar-winning film Cold Mountain as well as collaborations ranging from hardcore punk and Bosnian pop to symphony orchestra and the 2009 Grammy-nominated album Across the Divide with Afro-Cuban world-jazz phenomenon Omar Sosa.

REFUGEE a Tale of Family, Displacement, and Destiny, examines the lives of two Serbian sisters displaced at the El Shatt refugee camp on the Sinai desert during World War II.  Five decades later, their grandchildren, dispersed across two continents find themselves struggling with identity and finding home. The story is loosely based on the historical sojourn of Dragina Kalanj (the playwright's mother), who came to El Shatt as a teenage girl, the beginning of an epic odyssey that thwarted a return to her native land and family until 25 years later. The play explores the memory of family, the search for identity and acceptance in a new land, as well as trying to understand the plight of refugee and how that experience shapes ones destiny and creates generational aftershocks.

Sudbina Theater Company is an up-and-coming theater company based out of the Pioneer Valley, in Massachusetts. Under the direction of theater scholar and playwright, Milan Dragicevich, STC recently completed their successful run of the world premiere of "Refugee" at the Shea Theater Arts Center in Turners Falls, MA. STC aims to engage with shared historical narratives such as displacement, cultural identity, family, and destiny. With collaborators like Grammy-nominated musician, Tim Eriksen, and renowned Serbian theater director, Nikita Milivojevi, STC actively engages in current and past world politics in order to entertain, enlighten, and challenge ourselves and audiences.

In October 2018 Sudbina Theater Co. will  travel to Serbia to perform this piece for Joakim Interfest and international theater festival in Kragujevac, Serbia.
