Treasure Fest
Once more we congregate in the fall at the eclectic venue of Treasure Lake for another communal celebration. This year we will continue the motif of educational outlets to connect with your surroundings, local foods to connect with your community of growers, and live music to celebrate with. The festival grounds have become more diverse and offer even more these days. We will host the event on the patio of the bar and have a couple of really dynamic bands this year. We will end earlier in the evening so the fireside jam can thrive back at the campsites since our local community has so many talented musicians, including co producers of this event Bryan Schaffer and Tom Garoutte.
Gates open at 12 pm and starting at 2 pm, several educational walks and tours will happen highlighting the work we do here at Treasure Lake and Dark Wood Farm. I, Doug Crouch, land steward and permaculture developer, will switch it up this year and offer a boat tour to gain a different perspective. We will have a descent amount of boats here on the land but bring your kayaks or canoes. Following that, music will start at 5:30 pm and continue until 11 pm and held totally on the back porch of the bar. The good times don't have to stop there so plan to camp out with us and hang out around the community bonfires where you're sure to make new friends. Remember that all campsites are primitive so bring what you feel is necessary for a comfortable evening.

Boat Tour/ Education Events
Doug Crouch, International Permaculture Practitioner and local ecologist, will boat you across the lake detailing his work over the years managing the property holistically. It has been a 17 year period and his love for native species like Paw Paw and Spicebush is sure to come through. See the amazing diversity of habitats and learn about some of the trees and plants uses for humans and their role within the ecosystem.
THE HOST SITE:
Treasure Lake is a local, family run small business operating for 35 years now focused on recreation in nature, from hiking to birding, boating to fishing. It's a wonderfully scenic place hidden in the hills of the Northwestern Corner of Northern Kentucky and Boone County. The native food forest and festival venue, is located in flat fields and forested ridges and valleys. The place has a truly wild feel with its proximity to the Ohio River and combination of ecosystems (lake, forest, fields). We have been hard at work developing the 40 acre forest for bio-diversity and wild food abundance. With our thickets of spicebush and paw paw in the understory and towering hickories and oaks in the oversotry, the wildlife love it here and we are sure you will too. Camping is on one of our flat ridges that perch above the 12 acre pay fishing lake. They jut out towards the lake and afford great views and easy access. Spillover camping and for families will be closer to the buildings in the flat cleared areas. On the property is now also Dark Wood Farm, a 1 acre market garden run by Annie Woods and her crew.
Food With fall comes an abundance of food locally to combine into fabulous dishes to celebrate the season change and all the hard work nature and farmers put in to grow it. Local farmer Ryan Doan of Urban Greens will be combining his produce also with the produce of the farm on site Dark Wood Farm to create a local foods dinner available at a price of $10. There will be a meat or vegetarian option.
