Acoustic Blues Night with Doug MacLeod and opener Chris Yakopcic
An Evening of Acoustic Blues at the Blue Note Bistro
The Dayton Blues Society is partnering with the Blue Note Bistro to present an evening of internationally recognized award winning acoustic blues. The Dayton Blues Society has had great success in the past bringing nationally touring blues acts (including John Primer, Stacy Mitchhart, and Little Ed and Blues Imperials) to sell-out crowds in the Dayton area. This summer we are hosting Doug MacLeod, an act that has won multiple Blues Music Awards and has more than 50 years of touring experience to the Blue Note Bistro.
Headliner: Doug MacLeod Doug MacLeod is known for his superb songwriting, guitar wizardry, warm soulful vocals, wit and unforgettable live performances. At the heart of a Doug MacLeod performance is his knack for storytelling, bringing characters-from the faceless to the legendary-to strikingly real life. Doug is a multiple Blues Music Award winner, most recently the 2017 Blues Music Award for Acoustic Artist Of The Year and the Blues Blast Music Award for Male Artist Of The Year. This year Doug was nominated for two more Blues Music Awards including Acoustic Artist of the Year and Acoustic Album of the Year (results to be determined in May). He is an international touring artist who writes and sings original songs that are based on his own life and experiences. He learned from the old masters and carries forward a valuable tradition.
Opener: Chris Yakopcic Chris Yakopcic (ya-copsick) first charms you with his small town, boy next door voice, and smooth storytelling. Then he draws you in with a bevy of tasty guitar flourishes that mix Piedmont and delta styles of melody and moan, before laying down greasy slide on his resonator. The Dayton Ohio based guitarist is poised to break out with the release of his second full-length album, The Next Place I Leave. His style builds on the high-energy fingerpicking innovated by the likes of Robert Johnson and Blind Blake. Chris attempts to continue the wandering and uncertain tradition of these blues innovators as he tours the country as a solo blues artist and songwriter, in a continual effort to find a story worth telling. In January 2015, Chris was a finalist in the 31st International Blues Challenge (top 8 of 100 competing solo/duo acts) in Memphis, TN. In April 2018, Chris was able to not only claim the top spot in the Western PA blue challenge, he was also recognized with an award given to the best guitar player competing in the event.
The Dayton Blues Society (DBS) is dedicated to increasing awareness, understanding, and appreciation of Blues music and preserving its place in Americas musical heritage. DBS works to expand the presence and vitality of the Blues in the Dayton area through promotional events, educational programs, and strengthening links between the community and local musicians. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation operating with an all-volunteer staff.
