The Funky Knuckles / Philthy / Genr8r
The relocation of this incredible event to LP Studios was made possible thanks to the contributions of some extra groovy funk-loving Angelenos. It's a family affair, and we're out here trying to show love for The Funky Knuckles (Dallas) on their first trip to LA, with Genr8r and Philthy both coming thru in support!

The inevitable result of a talent-soaked soul and jazz community, The Funky Knuckles are taking the sound of Dallas to an entirely different level. They have been together six years and have held a weekly residency since the beginning. The band is comprised of sidemen from some of the most respected acts in the music industry (Beyonce, Erykah Badu, Chrisette Michelle, Talib Kweli, P. Diddy, The Polyphonic Spree, etc.), yet possesses a sound distinctly separate from any of their individual projects.
The Funky Knuckles move together musically as a school of fish, never complacent and always stretching the boundaries of improvisation and composition. Whether performing original music or standards, they draw from each members musical experiences to create their unique genre-bending sound. After the release of their debut album on GroundUP Music, As of Lately, The Knuckles added a full-time horn section and began touring nationally.
PHILTHY. Former member of Prince and the New Power Generation, Philip Lassiter is a household name in the music industry and 7 time Grammy award winning arranger. To attempt to truly define the bombastic brilliance of this jazz trumpeter turned singer-songwriter would be like trying to catch a bear with a mousetrap. A multi-faceted, multi-instrumentalist, Philthy's piano is his pulpit as he commands the stage with the bravado of a revolutionary. With the best backing band in Los Angeles as his army, its an invasion of the senses that leaves your body aching for more and your feet tapping the beat for days to come.
GENR8R holds an eclectic musical space in the funky universe that is uniquely its own, creating a landscape that contains much more than meets the eye at first glance. It's an adventure that always keeps you moving, where at one moment, you might find yourself riding a wave with the roar of the horns, when suddenly you're flying through the clouds after hearing the most sincere lyric. Expect the unexpected and ride the wave...or fly, or both - it's your funky universe!
