Lolly Hopwood - "Nice Things" (Album Release)

In addition to curating the touring kids group, Lolly & Yoyo, Lolly Hopwood is releasing a solo album of her original kids music. We are delighted to host an album release show with her at The Birdhouse Center for the Arts. Here is what Lolly says about her exciting new record:

"Nice Things mixes the magic of childhood in any era with the nostalgia that all parents feel as they watch their children grow. In 2014, I started writing songs for a new kids album that drew on the joys of childhood I saw around me, as a parent & as a children's performer. I was inspired by the way being around kids reflected my own childhood nostalgia back at me. Whether it's sledding on a snowy day, taking a trip to the city, laying in a hammock in the shade, or playing in the woods with friends, the wonder of the world through the easy & colorful filter of childhood is a gift to all of us, especially when we're going through tough times. Sometimes slowing down and seeing the world around us in a new light is just what we need. There are a few songs that may be familiar to Lolly & YoYo fans, since we've played them at shows. There Ya Go, Nico the Penguin, and the title track, Nice Things, have all been performed in the past year or so."

"I love writing kids music, and, this time, I explored more of a dreamy storytelling angle than I ever have. Drawing on some of my own favorite kids albums from artists like Harry Nilsson, Free Design, and Donovan; mixing their influence with classic Sesame Street and Muppet songs, with some ideas from the likes of Brian Eno & the Beach Boys, to name a few, I think (I hope) that we've created an album kids will really enjoy, but also one that will really strike a warm, familiar chord or two with parents."
