When you bond over music, you bond for life. We've been blessed to have relationships with so many different genres, promoters and events in the Portland music scene for the last 23 years. It's not really possible to convey how honored we truly are for everything. These farewell shows are meant to encompass the communities of the local scene that have shown us undying support throughout the years, and for this we are forever grateful and are excited to spend one last night with everyone!
Our focus has been the local scene, live performances every night, 362 days a year. Whether it was comedy, live music, an art show, wrestling in food, festival shows,Bacon cooking contests, etc etc - we gave everyone an opportunity. Stages like ours foster things like "The Famous Mysterous Actor Show" - which went onto local cable TV for a short run. There's a band you've never heard of full of Doctors that sell out our room every show they play. Our stage was blessed with Red Fang before they were thee Red Fang. Portugal.The Man's first show as a band was on our stage. The Decemberist played here before they were The Decemberists. Macklemore (the rapper dude) played Ash Street when he first started out playing in Portland, now he plays the Moda Center....
You don't get to be GWAR without playing at venues like Ash Street Saloon first. * insert wrestling in food here*
We were thrown a bone and hosted some amazing artists like Mike Watt, the core members of Gwar as The Dave Brockie Experience, Detriot Cobras (long ago, thanks to Mike Thrasher), Candlebox, Dead Moon, Flipper, Kyle Gass of Tenacious D, Lyrics Born, D.R.I., 36 Crazyfists, Local H, Jucifer, H.R. of Bad Brains, Kreator, Lydia Lunch, R.K.L., Posion Idea, Killswitch Engage, U.K. Subs, Graveyard, ZEKE..... for heaven's sake FAITH NO MORE played the Ash Street! I shit you not, ask the owner! The list goes on and on and it's kind of daunting to think about our tiny room and all those amazing shows.
For all of the thousands of loud nights & amazing memories, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Keep the scene alive!
