The World's Greatest Christmas Carols
The Cantilena Chamber Choir will present the Worlds Greatest Christmas Carols at Trinity Church on Sunday, December 4, at 3p.m. with special guest, famed narrator and baritone Benjamin Luxon providing readings for the Christmas season. The concert will include traditional carols and some new settings of old favorites by American composers. The concert will end with the premiere of the Lenox Suite for piano, violin and choir by Moshe Knoll as a tribute to Lenoxs 250th anniversary, this being the final event of the yearlong celebration.
Pianist and composer Moshe Knoll wrote the Lenox Suite especially for this event. Mr. Knoll serves on the faculty of Lenoxs Belvoir Terrace. The violinist is Juilliard professor Laura Goldberg who is also on the faculty. Other choral favorites on the program will be Vaughan Williams Fantasia on Christmas Carols a medley of Christmas Spirituals arranged by Chanticleer and favorite carol settings by John Rutter, Eric Barnum and Paul Halley. There is much more, plus a carol sing-along.
Concert tickets are $25 adults, $20 students/seniors, and free for children 12 and under, and that includes a special post concert reception with a cooking demo by Clayton Hambrick, former chef of the Church Street Café in Lenox. The Cantilena Choir, now in its fourteenth season, is a three-time recipient of a grant award from the Massachusetts Cultural Council for this concert, the only Berkshire choir so honored. It is also a two-time winner of the prestigious Choral Arts New Englands Alfred Nash Patterson Award for unique programming. Andrea Goodman, the founder and director of the choir, also serves as the Music Director for the annual summer Saratoga Choral Festival in Saratoga Springs, New York.
