The Deviant Voice, a festival of extreme vocals

"The Deviant Voice" presents solo vocal performers beyond the far edge of normalcy. Curated by Nick Didkovsky, the festival features solo sets by Doug Moore, Dafna Naphtali, Chuck Bettis, Dei Xhrist, and Maria Tegzes.

Doug Moore is the vocalist for the technical death metal band Pyrrhon and the extreme metal band Seputus. His solo set tonight with voice and electronics is a premiere. https://www.facebook.com/pyrrhonband/

Dafna Naphtali is a sound-artist/ improviser/composer. She performs and composes using her Max/MSP programming for sound processing of voice. http://dafna.info/

Chuck Bettis was raised in the fertile harDCore soil, nourished within Baltimore's enigmatic avant garde gatherings, and currently blossoming in New York's downtown musical tribe. Maria Tegzes' voice is capable of skipping from ionospheric high hums to a sultry baritone with verve and nerve. She is the vocalist with the trio, IMPetus and has performed with a variety of new music ensembles including Taller Instrumental of Spain, The New York Arts Ensemble, CUBE of Chicago, and The Princeton Ensemble of Princeton University. http://www.mariategzes.com/

Dei Xhrist uses glossolalia, concrete poetry, American primitive, and belle voce with a graceful stage presence that has been known to evolve in to a physical assault past the fourth wall.

Curator Nick Didkovsky is a guitarist, composer, and music software programmer. He founded the rock band Doctor Nerve in 1983 and the metal band Vomit Fist in 2013. He has composed for numerous ensembles including Bang On A Can, ETHEL String Quartet, and LOADBANG. Album credits include Alice Cooper Paranormal, released in 2017. http://www.didkovsky.com
