The Family Folk Chorale Celebrates the Music of James Taylor
A concert for the whole community
In times like these, music can bring us together and be a source of energizing inspiration and hope. Join the Family Folk Chorale for a memorable afternoon of soul-satisfying fun and brilliant artistry. Universal, uplifting themes and expertly crafted harmonies will be backed by a live band. Family Folk Chorale concerts are perfect for families -- lyrics are provided and all are encouraged to sing and dance. A brilliant songwriter
James Taylor is an American legend cherished for his soulful and sophisticated songwriting. The audience will relish raising their voices together in a medley of "Carolina In My Mind", "That's Why I'm Here", "Sweet Baby James", and other popular hits. "Shed a Little Light" and "You've Got a Friend" will remind us of our common humanity. Long-time enthusiasts and those new to James Taylor's music will discover gems like "Millworker" sung by the women, "Family Man" sung by the men, and "Traffic Jam" sung by the teens. Red Sox fans won't want to miss the elders' and children's rendition of "Angels of Fenway". And the love anthem "Shower the People" and touching "Fire and Rain" will have everyone swaying. The band will feature Gary Backstrom on guitars (GaryBackstromBand.com); Jonah Backstrom on drums; Quinn Eastburn on violin, keyboard, and melodica; Caleb Orvik on bass, and Greg Gettel and Taylor Migner on horns. A festive venue in a central location
The stunning and historic Arlington Town Hall is a festive atmosphere with great acoustics and plenty of room to move around. The spacious main floor seating area offers universal accessibility and there is additional balcony seating. Snacks, CDs, and other treats will be on offer, and there's a public garden just outside for young ones wanting extra run-around space during intermission. Arlington Town Hall is directly on public transportation (MBTA bus #77 from Harvard Square), and there is plenty of free, on-street and public lot parking on Sundays. Walk to dinner after the concert at one of Arlington Center's eateries and cafes. The Family Folk Chorale
Combine 25 families singing in harmony, with a backdrop of some of the area's most talented musicians, and some of the best loved folk/rock music around, and you have the one-of-a-kind Family Folk Chorale, the Boston area's premier intergenerational chorus. The spirited energy of children, the honesty of teenagers coming of age, and the experience of adulthood and elders all come shining through as chorale members aged 3-78 raise their voices in harmony and invite audiences to sing along. The Family Folk Chorale was founded in 1999 with the belief that everyone can sing, and that people of all ages singing together is powerful music. We are a multi-generational group of more than 60 singers, and a band comprised of some of Boston's most versatile musicians. Skillful and sensitive arrangements by director Chris Eastburn provide opportunities to hear individual voices in solo and small groups as well as harmonically rich, full group refrains.
