Hiyas Hila Piano Recital
A fund-raising concert featuring Filipino pianist Hiyas Hila. The concert will include works of Chopin, Debussy, Beethoven, Albeniz, Granados and Filipino composers Santos, Molina, Kasilag and San Pedro.
Our featured pianist, Dr. Hiyas Hila, has performed in solo concerts and chamber music recitals in the San Francisco Bay Area, Manila, Minneapolis, and in Gijon, Asturias in Spain. She was a first prize winner in the Schubert Club Piano Competition (graduate division) in St. Paul, Minnesota and in the National Music Competitions for Young Artists and the Piano Teachersâ Guild of the Philippines Concerto Competition in Manila; second prize winner in the Elinor Bell Piano Competition in Minneapolis; and one of three winners in the University of Minnesota Concerto Competition. She is a recipient of several awards and scholarships such as the Sergei Barsukov Piano Scholarship at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, the University of Minnesota Centennial Piano Fellowship, and fellowship grants from the Asian Cultural Council. She earned both her bachelor and master of music degrees, major in piano performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, with Mack McCray as her mentor; and her Doctor of Musical Arts degree, major in piano performance, with Lydia Artymiw as her teacher and adviser, at the University of Minnesota. She also taught applied piano and class piano at the University of Minnesota from 2005-2008. Dr. Hila is currently on the faculty of the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts (EBCPA) in Richmond, where she teaches Piano, Chamber Music, and Piano Ensemble.
