Monday, November 24th, 2014 8 PM, 21+ $5 ADV / $7 DOS
Daughter Cells (Philadelphia PA) 11:00 Members of Exploding World, The Orange Apples, and Illinois.
The Pretty Greens (Philadelphia PA) 10:00 Feminist art-garage pop-punk. Julia on bass & vocals, Kool Schmool on guitar and vocals, and Carly on drums and vocals. Everything from girl-group inspiration to shout-y feminist refrain and cat-eye-inspired couture. Heavy fuzz-bass, angular guitar, and bang-on beats.
Catriona Sturton (Ottawa ON) 9:15 Touring for her new album, Bumble Bee, Ottawa-based Sturton channels her heavily blues-inspired rock and pop to stages across the US, mixing her trademark boot-stomping harmonica with layered loops of steel and electric guitar. Mixed by Jarrett Bartlett (The Acorn, Jim Bryson, Andrew Vincent), the album includes nine tracks that range from baleful and discomfiting to tender and brooding. Catriona Sturton is the former bassist and backing vocalist of legendary Canadian group, Plumtree (http://www.plumtree.ca/01_band/).
Honey Radar (Philadelphia PA) 8:30 "With a presence in the state of Indiana (I think) and a live backing band based out of Philadelphia, Jason Henn's Honey Radar project gives the impression of existing in two places at once. That carries on over to the music on this well-executed debut LP, which follows a handful of extremely limited vinyl and lathe cuts (we're talking, like, editions of 25) Henn borrows the brevity and affectations of Guided By Voices or White Fence (short songs, odd titles, British accent, breathy delivery), dirties them up a little further, and records these little riff-miracles ...."
