Ted Ramirez in Concert
Ted Ramirez is a premier Southwest folksinger/songwriter committed to telling the powerful story of his homeland with original and traditional music and stories.
He presents a mixture of Indigenous Mexican, European and American music styles framed with personal views into the people and places of the Southwest portion of the United States.
Past tours include performances in North Wales, England, Ireland, Canada, The Netherlands, Mexico and the U.S.
Before the Internet, before radio and TV, newspapers and books, even before there was writing, humans recorded important events in the lives of themselves, their families, and the world around them. They did this in the most powerful way possible, by using music music to describe the events but also, as only music truly can, to capture and pass on the emotions, the passions, associated with these events. Throughout his career, Ted Ramirez has studied how others have used music, from simple chants welcoming the morning sun to complex symphonies describing entire worlds, to capture and express the emotions associated with these events. The powerful prayers of Native Americans, expressed in chants and songs handed down from generation to generation, the songs of the people who moved into and through this world of ours and the struggles they faced, have all formed his own writings. While singing the songs of praise and protest of others, from unknown poets to activists such as Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, Ted began to capture his own emotions and of those around him as they experienced loss, triumph, or simply growing up. Some of the songs are whimsical, some carry powerful images of injustice and loss. All follow the tradition of conveying a message, not to the brain, but directly to the heart.
