The Village of Peace Screening
Come out to The New Parkway Theater for an evening documentary screening of THE VILLAGE OF PEACE, followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers.
We will be going down the street to The Legionnaire Saloon (2272 Telegraph Ave. Oakland) following the screening for drinks and shmoozing.
The film explores a community of African-Americans from Chicago, who in 1967 began a two-year migration to Dimona, Israel. The founders of the Village recount their epic journey from the backdrop of oppression and upheaval in Chicago, through the unfamiliar terrain of Liberia, to what they now call home in the Negev Desert. Approximately 300 people made the original migration. Today, over 3,000 African-Hebrew Israelites live in Israel.
The New Parkway Cafe offers great food, local beer and wine at an affordable price. The community-centered cinema and pub is located in the heart of Oakland's Uptown district.
