Fado Night at the Pines
Join us at The Pines, a historic estate near Sausalito's Old Town for an evening of Fado featuring fadistas, Marylou Lawerence, David Garcia, and guitar players ROUXINOIS (and Art works by international recognized artist Joao de Brito.)
Fado is the national song of Portugal. The fado is intimately intertwined with Portuguese food, wine, and culture. Fado expresses and conveys - in the international language of music - the emotions of love, joy, sadness, pain, passion loss, and hope. To truly understand Portuguese culture one needs to experience "Uma Noite do Fado" (A Night of Fado).
The fado is traditionally performed in the fado clubs of the ancient Alfama district of Lisboa (Lisbon) in small wine cellars, which venues t provide excellent sound dynamics for the acoustically-performed art form. We are extremely fortunate to be able to present and recreate this "Clube do Fado" ambience in Sausalito, in the wine cellar of the beautiful The Pines mansion, originally built in 1888, and painstakingly remodeled and restored to its former glory. This venue will truly recreate a transportive experience of being in a Clube do Fado in the Alfama district of Lisboa, in our very own Sausalito.
Included in the ticket cost, there will be a very special tasting of wines of 24 different varietal wines of Portugal listed below and donated by Vini Portugal (Wines of Portugal). Experience these fine Portuguese regional wines that compete on an international level in taste, and which are being newly-discovered in California as quality wines.
In addition to the Fado, there will be a buffet [Portuguese-style "petiscos" (tapas) dinner, no host cocktails, raffle prizes and an auction. The artwork of Portuguese American artist, João de Brito, will be featured. See: http://joaodebrito.com.
This fundraising event will benefit the Sausalito-Cascais Youth Sailing Exchange sponsored by the Sausalito Yacht Club and the Cascais Sausalito Sister City Council. Student sailors from Cascais' Clube Naval (Yacht Club) youth sailing program will visit Sausalito in July 2015, to be followed by an exchange of student sailors from the Sausalito Yacht Club youth sailing program that will visit Cascais, Portugal in the summer of 2016. This is the first international youth sailing exchange in the Bay Area.
There will be a truly memorable Portuguese experience in Sausalito, which celebrates the 150 or more years of Portuguese-Azorean presence in Sausalito. The Consul General of Portugal, the Est. Nuno Mathias, will be in attendance for this event.
The evening starts at 6:30PM. Cocktail attire.

Free Shuttle Service from the top of Spencer Ave and City Hall parking lots.
HOW TO GET TO THE SHUTTLE STOPS FOR THE PINES EVENTS:
There are 2 shuttle stops to choose from. One is located at Sausalito's City
Hall and the other is just off of Highway 101 at Waldo Grade
DIRECTIONS TO SPENCER AVE PARK/RIDE @ HWY 101 SOUTH EXIT:
1. Take the Spencer Ave Exit off of Highway 101 South.
2. Follow the road under the freeway overpass.
3. Turn RIGHT at stop sign onto Monte Mar Dr.
4. Take the 1st LEFT into the Park and Ride parking lot.
(you can also park along Monte Mar Rd. SPD is notified of events that utilize the city shuttle services and patrol the park and ride areas for security.)
5. The shuttle picks up guests at the southern bus pad.

DIRECTIONS TO SPENCER AVE PARK/RIDE @ HWY 101 NORTH EXIT:
1. Take the Spencer Ave Exit off of Highway 101 North.
2. Bear LEFT under overpass. The roadway name is Monte Mar Dr.
3. Turn RIGHT into the Park and Ride parking lot.
4. The shuttle picks up guests at the larger, southern bus pad (towards the
direction of San Francisco).
