The festival orchestra will begin the concert with two of Bach's magnificent orchestral suites.
The majestic D Major suite is scored for strings, trumpets, oboes and timpani. In complete contrast, the B minor suite is very much a "concerto" for solo flute and strings, comprised of several delightful and virtuosic dance movements.
The festival chorus and soloists join the orchestra for the second half of the program. One of Bach's most beloved and grand compositions for chorus, soloists and orchestra, the Magnificat remains one of the great monuments in all choral/orchestral literature.
