The Many Faces of The Queens of Country with Nanci Riaza-Clark
You may have met her as lead vocalist for J&B on the Rocks for the last three years. But on Saturday, October 24 at 7:30 PM at Canyon Moon Theatre, you will experience Nanci Riaza-Clark in a kaleidoscope of vocal styles and musical portraits of the queens of country music. From Loretta Lynns classic country music to Reba McEntires interpretations of standard blues and rock to the crossover music of Patsy Cline, the Queens of Country have done it all. And how about Broadway? Dolly Parton wrote the Broadway musical 9 to 5 and had a hit on the pop charts with the title song. Reba McEntire starred in Annie Get Your Gun, receiving rave reviews from the New York critics. The Queens of Country showcases the ability of country female vocalists to sing in a mix of styles. A few stunning examples Nanci will be singing are Patsy Clines Crazy, Stand By Your Man by Tammy Wynette, 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton and Reba McEntires Sunday Kind of Love. Nanci Riaza-Clark started her singing career at the age of ten when she sang a radio commercial for an amusement park in her home town. At the age of seventeen, she started singing in a seven piece horn band that played music similar to Tower of Power. Although she has nine years of classical vocal training, Nanci always puts her heart and soul where her voice is, whether its show tunes, standards, country, blues, or rock. Her beautiful voice and charming personality have won her an enthusiastic following in the Sedona/Cottonwood area. Nanci is accompanied by Bob Grogan on keyboards, and Woody Ano on guitar. Bob Grogan, a true jazz aficionado, started J&B on the Rocks and has played all types of music in the Verde Valley area. His passion for music, especially jazz, led him to serve on the Board of Sedonas Jazz on the Rocks for ten years. As an LAPD detective, Grogan was credited with solving the Hillside Strangler murders. A movie, The Case of the Hillside Strangler starring Richard Crenna, was made about Grogan and his life. In 2004 Woody Ano joined the group as their guitarist. Woody comes from a musical family and has played clubs and events throughout the Verde Valley. He first honed his skills playing in a rock show band, The Lancers, with his four brothers around the Chicago area, followed by four years in a country and blue grass band, The Country Sons. He also booked entertainment and concert shows throughout the mid-west, developing MTV style music videos and building recording studios. Tickets are $10. To purchase tickets, call Brown Paper Tickets 24-hour hotline at 1-800-838-3006. Tickets are also available at Rycus Corners and Marketplace Caf in the VOC and at Bashas in West Sedona. Canyon Moon Theatre is located in the Oak Creek Factory Outlets, next to Village Pet Supply and Grooming, on Highway 179 in the Village of Oak Creek.
