John Shaw's Magnolia Triangle
John Shaw's Magnolia Triangle is a Memphis-based progressive jazz trio, with a repertoire consisting of standards, traditional jazz tunes and a few originals. Pianist John Michael Shaw is a 1992 graduate of Memphis State University, with a degree in music education. He is a musician, composer, writer, blogger and music industry clinician. Bassist Monte Butts moved to New Albany, Mississippi from his native Oklahoma, and is a wholesale florist by day. Drummer Renardo Ward is one of Memphis' most sought-after jazz drummers, and is also the associate pastor of Greater Harvest Church of God In Christ. Although all of the members had played together before, Magnolia Triangle came into being in early 2013 and is available for club dates and private functions. The trio is also the rhythm section for the Memphis Jazz Alliance, a quintet with trumpet and saxophone, which is also available for booking.
