CONEY ISLAND FILM FESTIVAL PROGRAM 13: HOLES IN MY SHOES
A 94-year-old New Yorker, Jack Beers, has broken the age barrier full force. He can do what most young men can (and some!), and his many diverse lifetime achievements, helping to shape New York City and more, would take many men to accomplish. This is an inspiring, funny and moving film, a true rags to riches story. The film begins with an acknowledgement of Jack from Mayor Bloomberg for his contribution over a century to New York City, then we see Jack's name in lights on the famous marquee of Radio City Music Hall, then, at 94, Jack rips a Greenwich, Connecticut telephone book into 4 pieces with his hands and this is ONLY the beginning!
Jack was raised in poverty in the Lower East Side, became known as "New York City's Strongest Boy"Â, he helped build Radio City Music Hall, at The Manhattan Project he invented something that shortened WW2 and saved many lives, he erected the Empire State Building spire, he was a professional dog trainer, was a film actor in over 200 films, beat terminal illnesses, and today rides 3-5 miles per day on a stationary bike. He's goin for 100!
This is a profound, moving and richly entertaining story for all ages.
