Anti-Slavery Advocacy Benefit Concert
Thursday, June 19 at 7:30 pm, University Christian Church hosts a benefit concert to aid WARN (Washington Anti-Trafficking Response Network), a coalition of organizations in Washington State that provide direct assistance to victims of trafficking. Learn more at www.warn-trafficking.org
The concert features local jazz/blues guitarist and singer/songwriter, Chic Street Man. "Chic performs both nationally and internationally. His lyrics focus on positive alternatives while entertaining in a spirited manner. His music transcends cultural barriers through acoustic bluesy ballads and funky upbeat originals." www.chicstreetman.com/
Also on the program is the Latin American folk group, Sin Fronteras. Their music is full of "vibrant rhythms, soulful melodies, breathtaking harmonies and, weaving throughout, the uncommon poetry of Latin America's common people. Songs of life, humanity, equality, justice, hope. Every performance is unique. In the spirit of a Chilean penya, Sin Fronteras regularly collaborates with guest artists to create a multimedia experience for our listeners: music, color, poetry, spoken word, dance, art, cuisine... At the heart of each event is the sharing between musicians, artists, and audience." www.sinfronteras.cquilo.com/
This event will also feature an Open House at 6:30 pm to highlight the organizations of the the church's Disciples Center for Peace & Justice. Doors open at 6:30 pm.
The concert is $15.00 advance purchase and $17.00 (suggested donation) at the door. Concessions will be sold at the Open House and intermission. All proceeds to benefit WARN.
