Musings on Memory, ENTROPY + TONGUE
Generations Apart, Alicia Mullikin and Stephanie Gilliland Offer Musings on Memory in this Shared Evening of Mutli Media Dance Performance.
Alicia Mullikin and her Seattle based company Entropy presents Iron Daisies, an expression of memories and the significance they hold in our lives. Using improvisational tactics and concepts, and original compositions by multi-instrumentalist Daniel Mullikin, the performance bends the relationship between dance and accompaniment. This technical work floats somewhere between a concert and a jam session triggered by memories. " They tap into the human experience, and transform it into art with uncanny accuracy- and a constant reminder that emotion is a full-body-and-soul experience." _Seattle Dances Review
Based in the San Jacinto mountains of Southern California, Stephanie Gilliland and her company TONGUE will be premiering Invisible Skin. An expression of the subtle memories we inherit, memories that are not our own but inhabit our bodies, the chain of life. This work takes place at times on a wall under a projected layer of film set to an original sound score created in collaboration with composer/ musician Adrian Wong. "I look to the body to find our connection to that which is primal and elemental. Drawn to the mysterious and poetic I am attracted to that which cannot be fully understood." sg
