Queen City Musicians Captivates with Rarely Heard Masterworks

SEATTLE, WA 2015  -  This January 2015, Seattle's new up-and-coming performing arts ensemble, Queen City Musicians (QCM), will bring Handel's rarely heard Ode for St. Cecilia's Day oratorio to life. QCM will begin the new year with two performances. They will feature thirty of the region's finest early music specialist performing on period instruments, led by the captivating guest conductor, Ryan Mullaney.

Handel's Ode for St. Cecilia's Day will mark the third of four concerts in QCM's inaugural season and will be their largest project to date. QCM began in the Spring of 2014.  Their mission is the rediscovery of forgotten masterpieces. QCM brings this beautiful, rarely performed, unique music from the 16th - 18th centuries to life in a fun and approachable performance fashion. QCM also creates shared performance opportunities between Young Artists and accomplished professionals.  This season and the next, Queen City Musicians will feature several Young Artists and Guest Artists, upholding their mission values for growth of young musicians.

"In this inaugural season, we are extremely excited to be featuring an amazingly talented local teenage brother and sister duo, Alexandra [mezzo-soprano, age 14] and Matthew Johnson [organist, age 16] from Issaquah, WA.  As QCM Young Artists, they will be performing alongside seasoned professionals such as our tenor, Derek Chester, and under the direction of our Guest Conductor, Ryan Mullaney. It is going to be a baroque treat!" said artistic director, Julianna Emanski, "Hopefully, performances of this unique repertoire, combined with the advancement of young musicians in collaboration with local and national artists, will catch fire and ignite a new community of concert goers."

With two successful performances this season, QCM is starting to turn heads in the Seattle music community. "It was such a delight to see this group deliver the experience they didand with such a fresh approachinviting the audience to have fun listening and watching along with them. I hope to see more of these types of performances from this group. With this style of programming, they have a golden opportunity to carve out a unique niche for themselves and grow interest in the genre; their show appeals to both longtime baroque lovers and those who are just discovering the genre. I can't wait to see what the Queen City Musicians do next." said Rachel Hart - the editorial director of the award-winning Seattle Magazine, after attending the QCM October performance.
