Common, Yet Exceptional
The Southeastern Philharmonic Orchestra will perform its spring concert, Common, Yet Exceptional, conducted by Michael Bednarsky. The theme celebrates the uncommon and exceptional accomplishments of the "common" man and woman.
The program will include:
* Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man commissioned to boost American morale during WWII.
* Selections from Oklahoma, which hit Broadway in 1943 and was performed overseas to boost troop morale during the war.
* Beethoven's Symphony No. 7, which premiered at a concert benefiting soldiers wounded in a tide-turning battle against the emperor Napoleon.
And, finally, the ever-popular John Williams score from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back."
