 Teaming up to Work (Blocking)
Derby is a game of intense teamwork. A successful player is one that her team can trust while being able to return the trust.  Identify the situation as an individual and react as a team.  Nobody blocks alone here! We will break down the fundamentals of teamwork to help improve cohesion of movements between individuals.

 Surviving the Scrum (Jamming)
Jamming techniques for scrum starts.  Whether you are on your own or working with your offence, this class will give you some techniques for getting out alive from jam-line starts. Legal pushing zones, setting picks, faking out the opposition and using your shopping cart are just the beginning.

Offense vs. defense  (Blocking)Transitioning as a team between offense and defense is the key to a successful jam.  Identify different types.  Recognize when to make the switch, how to communicate this to your teammates and the appropriate strategies to implement in each situation.

Jammers: breaking walls with your mind (Jamming)
Ever come up against an impenetrable wall of opposing blockers? Learn how to think your way through a wall by using the physics of the track, skating techniques and your own skaters. Bring a black and white shirt and your best spoon-bending mind tricks.

 Sunday, June 1

 Size does matter (Blocking)
Hit smarter not harder!  Make effective hits with less energy while staying in play by using size differential.  Learn how to make every hit count and be the one that all jammers fear.  No bowling ball hits here.

Don't touch this: avoiding hits while jamming (Jamming)
Learn how to jam smarter instead of harder and have fun while wearing the star. Techniques to make you a speedier, more agile and more successful jammer.  Bruises are cool, but learn which ones to take, and which to avoid. Bring a black and white shirt.

 Backwards blocking (Blocking)
Learn effective blocking and bracing techniques and how to counter them

Stopper Derby: Jamming through slow/stationary packs (Jammer)
Think being a successful jammer is just about skating fast and turning left?  Think again.  To be an effective jammer at a high level of play means you have to CONTROL your speed and move quickly and legally within tight packs.  This class will teach you how.
