Poulenc GLORIA
The Cheyenne Chamber Singers, accompanied by orchestra, will present its annual concert on Friday, May 2, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cheyenne. The major work of the concert will be the Gloria by Francis Poulenc, one of the twentieth century's finest sacred choral works. . The evening's concert will be led by Sean Ambrose, Artistic Director and Conductor of the Cheyenne Chamber Singers.
The "Gloria" by Francis Poulenc is a setting of the "Gloria in excelsis Deo" familiar from its use in mass liturgy and many other musical compositions. One of Poulenc's most celebrated works written near the end of his career, the work was premiered on January 21, 1961, in Boston, Massachusetts, by the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Chorus Pro Musica. An RCA Victor recording by the Robert Shaw Chorale in 1965 won a Grammy Award for the "Best Choral Performance."
The second half of the concert will feature the ethereal work of Morten Lauridsen, Lux Aeterna.
